My Evaluation

This includes tutorials and an evaluation of the project

How to hand sew a slip stitch

In this tutorial, I am demonstrating how to sew slip stitch onto a scrap piece of fabric using a needle and thread. This sewing technique can easily be applied creating garments.

How to: thread a machine

In this tutorial, I am demonstrating how to thread up an industrial machine. This is an important skill to learn with costume making because it can easily get done incorrectly and if you don’t know how to thread a machine, it can be hard to figure out why the machine isn't sewing fabrics.

Evaluation of the overall project

Overall, I enjoyed working on the Alice show. I thought it was a great opportunity to get a taste of what the theatre industry is like and what it is like to be in a professional work environment.  What I enjoyed most was the costume construction and the chance to create the costumes during the pre-production process. I also enjoyed being able to alter and fix the actors costumes during the show because it meant I got to sew. I've learnt how to use different types of machines such as the over locking machine. As well as that with the show I got to learn what it like to be behind the scenes of a theatre production and what is needed to make the shows successful. I wasn't too keen on the role of a dresser during the production because once the actors were dressed there wasn’t many costume changes during the show, so I wasn't required to be on hand.  For future projects, I will use a lot of the skills I have learn from the Alice project. For example I know with costume patterns the seam allowance has to get added on, and this will apply to all projects I do.
