The Alice In Wonderland Project

The Job roles I focused on:

Costume constructor:

During the pre-production process of the Alice show, I constructed costumes that the costume designers had illustrated to be used in the show.  The construction starts from before the show that happens at the venue. I got the opportunity to learn vital skills that are needed in costume construction through making a pair of trousers and a waist coat for the character of Tweedledum. Costume constructors are just as important as the costume designer because they are the ones who create the designers' ideas, so they become reality. As well as this, they must have key skills such as: having a passion for design, artistic ability and rudimentary construction knowledge.

Dresser:

When the Alice production began, I was a dresser for the show. This meant attending the show when it began at the Old Rep theatre and making sure that costumes were prepared at the beginning of the show and in the right dressing rooms for each character. Helping the actors with their costumes if they came across any issues (such safety pinning costumes if there isn't a chance to alter it during a show) and resetting costumes at the end of the show so that they are ready for the next show. Dressers are important because they make sure that all the costumes are organised and ready so that the show is successful.
