Production Process

For the escape room project we had to work with other departments of the Industry. Here are the job roles and how they relate to the job role I doing.

This page displays the production process I went through for the escape room. Here are some of the skills and techniques I learned and developed during this project.

Brow Blocking

The Process of blocking brows

Time laps of brow blocking practice

Final brows.heic

During the 1920's really thin eyebrows were in trend. the women back then would usually tweeze there brows really thin or shave them down.  In order for us to achieve this look without have to shave any eyebrows we learned to block off out brows.

Final brows after practice

How to: Brow Block

I found brow blocking the hardest part of the makeup look, however I was able to improve on it the more I practice it throughout the project.  At the beginning I struggled with laying down the brow hairs flat at the 45 degree angle because I wasn't applying enough pressure to the glue when applying on the actor. I improved this by having more of a firm grip with the glue and the brow brush when brushing up the brows.

Marcel Waves

The Process of pinning dry curls

Slide hair 1_edited.jpg

During the 1920's cropped hairstyle were popularised. One very famous hair style was Marcel waves (aka Finger waves). For this hairstyle we learned two ways to do it- wet curls and dry curls.  For this Lucy was my model.

The process of doing dry Marcel waves:

  1. Brush all the hair through and section it into 3 parts. 1 section at the back 2 sections at the front with a middle or side part depending on your preference.

  2. Take a small part of hair and add in some mouse.

  3. Get your hair curler and the section of hair

  4. Use the hair curler and curl the section of hair away from the face starting at the end and spin it down to the root

  5. Using a curl clip, clip down the curl and leave it to set. Repeat this for every section of hair.

  6. Once this is done, take down all the curls and using a denman brush to  brush through all the curls.

  7. After this the hair is ready to start the Marcel waves. use a comb to an create an S shape.

  8. Get a smaller section clip to pin the wave into place. repeat the process on the other side and back of the hair.

  9. Spray the hair with Got2be glued freeze blasting spray to hold and set in place once a the waves have been created.

  10. Whilst the waves are setting if the actresses hair is long use hair grips and pin it underneath to create a cropped look.

  11. Once this is done you can take out the section clips and the dry Marcel waves are done.

The process of doing wet Marcel waves:

  1. Start by parting the hair the same way you would doing dry Marcel waves

  2. Using a mist bottle drench the first section of hair you want to work on and comb it through. Make sure its wet from the roots.

  3. Get a scoop of wet hair gel (for this we used echo gel) and consistently apply it over that section of hair.

  4. Once the section of hair is wet you can start the Marcel waves.

  5. Following the same method as the dry Marcel waves

  6. Use a comb to brush an S shape.

  7. Get a smaller section clip to pin the wave into place. repeat the process on the other side and the back of the hair.

  8. Spray the hair with the Got2be glued freeze blasting spray to hold and set the in place once a the waves have been created.

  9. Whilst the waves are setting if the actresses hair is long use hair grips and pin it underneath to create a cropped look.

  10. Once this is done you can take out the section clips and the wet Marcel waves are done.

Overall with the Marcel waves I preferred doing wet waves over dry waves, because I found it was easier to practice using the comb when manipulating the wave shape. However it was good to learn how to do both because it gave more me different options when doing Vyv's hair for the photo shoot.  For the dry waves I could have brushed Lucy's hair out more because when I was trying to do the waves I struggled, when her hair would get knotted. If I were to do it again I would use less of the freeze blasting spray because in my end results you could see when the hair clips were put in.

Period 1920's makeup looks

04

brows and eye shadow looks
In the 1920's thin, long eyebrows were on trend and so was a wash of colour for eye-shadow. Usually darker colours they created a dim melancholy look.

Lips
the lips were darker coloured lipsticks with exaggerated cupids bows.

Cheeks
The cheeks would have a lot of blush on them in deep reds.

1920's eye shadow look practice

The complete final practice look

Following my design I practiced doing the 1920's makeup I drew out. This was the complete look with a wash of black and grey eye-shadow, a maroon lip, deep pink blush and thin brows. I was happy with the look however I think that the blush could have been more heavy put onto the cheeks and brought down so they it more drastic. I also decided that when I was applying the makeup onto the actresses for the escape room I would give the brows less of a curve and more of a point.

Health and safety

05

For this project health and safety was extremely important. For reasons such as avoiding germ spreading and cross contamination. Especially with the pandemic it's more important than ever we make sure everyone remained safe.

Something's for health and safety we did were:

  • Washed all the used brushes and tiles with warm water and washing up liquid when we were done.

  • Sprayed what we used with disinfectant all with IPA- pure alcohol to disinfect them.

  • Hand washing before any application.

  • Mascara sharing was prohibited.

  • All the actors/ models who got their makeup done had to complete a patch test at least 24 hrs before hand to check for allergies.

  • Before using hair spray a warning was said in case anyone around has respiratory problems.
